All refrences to claim(s) which appear below refer to the numbering after this setence.

1. A method, in a data processing system, for simplifying a netlist before computational resources are exceeded, the method comprising:
for each of a set of suspected equivalences in a proof graph of a netlist, determining, by a processor, whether equivalence holds for at least one of an equivalence or an equivalence class by identifying whether the equivalence or equivalence class is either affecting or non-affecting;
responsive to the equivalence or equivalence class being affecting, recording, by the processor, a proof dependency as an edge in a proof graph;
for each node in the proof graph, determining, by the processor, whether the node has a falsified dependency;
responsive to the node failing to have a falsified dependency, identifying, by the processor, that all dependencies are satisfied and that the equivalences represented by the node in the proof graph are sequential equivalences; and
simplifying, by the processor, the netlist by consuming the sequential equivalences.
2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
responsive to the equivalence or equivalence class being non-affecting, removing, by the processor, the equivalence from a set of equivalences or the equivalence class from a set of equivalence classes.
3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
removing, by the processor, the redundant equivalence or equivalence class from future consideration during processing of the netlist.
4. The method of claim 1, wherein by removing the equivalence from the set of equivalences or the equivalence class from the set of equivalence classes removes the equivalence or equivalence class from future consideration during processing of the netlist.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the proof graph is generated by the method comprising:
receiving, by the processor, input that identifies the netlist to be validated and at least one of a set of equivalences or a set of equivalence classes;
building, by the processor, the proof graph without any edges and with at least two of a node for each equivalence in the set of equivalences or a node for each equivalence class in the set of equivalence classes;
performing, by the processor, speculative reduction on an unrolled version of the netlist, wherein the speculative reduction asserts suspected equivalences in the set of equivalences or in the set of equivalence classes; and
identifying, by the processor, structural dependencies for between each of the at least two nodes, wherein each identified structural dependency is recorded as an edge in the proof graph.
6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
determining, by the processor, whether the node in the proof graph has already been tested;
responsive to the node failing to have been previously tested, for each other node in a set of other nodes that has an incident edge coming from the node, determining, by the processor, whether the other node has a path to a falsified node; and
responsive to the other node having a path to a falsified node, marking, by the processor, the other node as non-testable, wherein marking the other node as non-testable reduces the number of tests that need to be performed and decreases testing time.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the determination as to whether the node has the falsified dependency is performed by the method comprising:
determining, by the processor, whether the node is satisfied without constraints in a list of constraints;
responsive to the SAT problem being satisfied without constraints, fixing, by the processor, a set of variable assignments determined in satisfying the node without constraints;
for each constraint in the list of constraints, determining, by the processor, whether the node with the constraint results in the set of variable assignments remain constant;
responsive to the node with the constraint resulting in the set of variable assignments remaining constant, adding, by the processor, the constraint to a list of non-affecting constraints; and
returning, by the processor, a satisfied result.
8. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
responsive to the node with the constraint resulting in the set of variable assignments changing, adding, by the processor, the constraint to a list of affecting constraints;
determining, by the processor, whether the node is satisfiable with the constraint being applied;
responsive to the node being satisfied with the constraint, fixing, by the processor, a new set of variable assignments determined in satisfying the node with the constraint; and
for each remaining constraint in the list of constraints, continuing with determining, by the processor, whether the node with the constraint results in the new set of variable assignments remain constant, change, or are inconclusive.
9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
responsive to the node with the constraint resulting in the set of variable assignments timing out, returning, by the processor, an inconclusive result, wherein the inconclusive result indicates adding constraints will not make the node conclusive.
10. The method of claim 7, further comprising:
responsive to the node without any constraint being unsatisfied, returning, by the processor, a unsatisfied result, wherein the unsatisfiable result indicates that adding constraints to the node will not affect the unsatisfiability of the node; and
responsive to the node without any constraint being inconclusive, returning, by the processor, an inconclusive result, wherein the inconclusive result indicates adding constraints will not make the node conclusive.
