What is claimed is:
1. An apparatus for monitoring vital signs, comprising:
a remote speaker-microphone; and
an accelerometer coupled to the remote speaker-microphone, the accelerometer monitoring the vital signs.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein accelerometer monitors at least one of heart rate, respiration, and movement.
3. The communication system of claim 1, wherein the accelerometer monitors movement and the vital sign information is derived therefrom.
4. A remote speaker-microphone, comprising:
a controller; and
an accelerometer coupled to the controller, the accelerometer monitoring an individual’s vital signs.
5. The remote speaker-microphone of claim 4, wherein the remote speaker-microphone is proximately coupled to the user’s body.
6. The remote-speaker-microphone of claim 5, wherein the remote speaker-microphone is located within a coat.
7. An accessory for a portable radio, comprising:
a controller;
an accelerometer coupled to the controller; and
the accessory coupled to the portable radio, the accessory being proximately coupled to the user’s body for monitoring the user’s vital signs.
8. The accessory of claim 7, wherein the accelerometer monitors at least one of heart rate, respiration, and movement.
9. The accessory of claim 7, wherein the accelerometer monitors movement and at least one of heart rate and respiration.
10. A communication system, comprising:
a portable radio worn by a user;
a remote accessory coupled to the portable radio, the remote accessory including:
a controller; and
an accelerometer coupled to the controller and monitoring the user’s vital sign information;
a dispatch station for receiving the vital sign information from the radio; and
a detection notification device coupled to the dispatch station for detecting the vital sign information and providing notification of the vital sign information to others.
11. The communication system of claim 10, wherein accelerometer monitors at least one of heart rate, respiration.
12. The communication system of claim 10, wherein the remote accessory comprises a remote-speaker-microphone.
13. The communication system of claim 12, wherein the accelerometer monitors movement and at least one of heart rate and respiration.
14. The communication system of claim 12, wherein the accelerometer determines a movement waveform and wherein heart rate and respiration parameters are determined from the movement waveform.

1. A communication device comprising:
an RF transceiver for communicating first data with at least one of a plurality of remote communication devices via a first protocol and a first frequency band in a first mode of operation;
a millimeter wave transceiver for communicating second data with at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices via a second protocol and a 60 GHz frequency band in a second mode of operation;
a communication control module, coupled to the RF transceiver and the millimeter wave transceiver, for coordinating the communication of the first data and the second data with the at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices; and
a graphical interface device, coupled to the communication control module, for selecting the at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices and for selecting at least one of the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation, based on actions of a user.
2. The communication device of claim 1 wherein the first protocol includes at least one of: a wireless local area network protocol; a wireless piconet protocol; and a wireless telephony protocol.
3. The communication device of claim 1 wherein communication control module generates a list of the plurality of remote communication devices and wherein the graphical interface module displays the list of the plurality of remote communication devices.
4. The communication device of claim 3 wherein the graphical interface module displays the list of the plurality of remote communication devices as a plurality of icons corresponding to the plurality of remote communication devices.
5. The communication device of claim 4 wherein the graphical interface module includes a touch screen.
6. The communication device of claim 3 wherein the list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available by direct communication and a second subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available by indirect communication.
7. The communication device of claim 3 wherein the list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available via communications in the first frequency band and a second subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available via the 60 GHz frequency band.
8. The communication device of claim 3 wherein the communications control module stores registration information corresponding to a plurality of registered remote communication devices, and compare the list of the plurality of remote communication device to the plurality of registered remote communication devices and wherein list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices that are included in the registered remote communication devices.
9. The communication device of claim 3 wherein the communications control module stores registration information corresponding to a plurality of registered remote communication devices, and compare the list of the plurality of remote communication device to the plurality of registered remote communication devices and wherein list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices that are not included in the registered remote communication devices.
10. A method comprising:
communicating first data with at least one of a plurality of remote communication devices via a first protocol and a first frequency band in a first mode of operation;
communicating second data with at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices via a second protocol and a 60 GHz frequency band in a second mode of operation;
coordinating the communication of the first data and the second data with the at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices;
graphically selecting the at least one of the plurality of remote communication devices based on actions of a user; and
graphically selecting at least one of the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation, based on the actions of the user.
11. The method of claim 10 wherein the first protocol includes at least one of:
a wireless local area network protocol; a wireless piconet protocol; and a wireless telephony protocol.
12. The method of claim 10 further comprising:
generating a list of the plurality of remote communication devices and wherein graphically selecting the at least one of the plurality of remote control devices includes displaying the list of the plurality of remote communication devices.
13. The method of claim 12 wherein the displaying the list includes displaying the list of the plurality of remote communication devices as a plurality of icons corresponding to the plurality of remote communication devices.
14. The method of claim 13 wherein graphically selecting the at least one of the plurality of remote control devices includes receiving user input via a touch screen.
15. The method of claim 12 wherein the list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available by direct communication and a second subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available by indirect communication.
16. The method of claim 12 wherein the list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available via communications in the first frequency band and a second subset of the plurality of remote communication devices available via the 60 GHz frequency band.
17. The method of claim 12 further comprising;
storing registration information corresponding to a plurality of registered remote communication devices; and
comparing the list of the plurality of remote communication device to the plurality of registered remote communication devices;
wherein list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices that are included in the registered remote communication devices.
18. The method of claim 12 further comprising;
storing registration information corresponding to a plurality of registered remote communication devices; and
comparing the list of the plurality of remote communication device to the plurality of registered remote communication devices;
wherein list of the plurality of remote communication devices indicates a first subset of the plurality of remote communication devices that are not included in the registered remote communication devices.
