1. A signal bearing medium tangibly embodying a program of machine-readable instructions executable by a digital processing apparatus to perform operations to manage policies on a computer having a foreign operating system, the operations comprising:
receiving a policy on a second computer having a foreign operating system, the policy constructed on a first computer having a native operating system according to a policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system, and wherein the foreign operating system does not directly utilize the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system; and
executing a translator on the second computer, the translator configured to execute under the foreign operating system and translate the policy from the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system to configuration information usable by the foreign operating system.
2. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, wherein the native operating system is Windows\u2122.
3. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, wherein the foreign operating system is UNIX\u2122 or a derivative thereof.
4. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising updating selected information on the second computer with the configuration information.
5. The signal bearing medium of claim 4, wherein updating selected information on the second computer comprises updating workstation-specific configuration information.
6. The signal bearing medium of claim 4, wherein updating selected information occurs in response to workstation start-up.
7. The signal bearing medium of claim 4, wherein updating selected information on the second computer further comprises updating user-specific configuration information.
8. The signal bearing medium of claim 7, wherein the user-specific configuration information comprises configuration information selected from the group consisting of organization information, organizational unit information, organizational role information, group information, domain information, domain controller information, country information, locality information, state or province information, site information, profile information, user object information, template information, and alias information.
9. The signal bearing medium of claim 4, wherein setting user-specific configuration information further comprises establishing a precedence of user-specific configuration information.
10. The signal bearing medium of claim 4, wherein updating the selected information occurs in response to user login.
11. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising editing a policy on the first computer.
12. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising providing a policy template configured to constrain policy editing on the first computer.
13. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising registering a plurality of translators on the second computer corresponding to a plurality of policies on the first computer.
14. The signal bearing medium of claim 13, wherein registering the plurality of translators comprises placing the translators in a file system directory.
15. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising polling a translator to identify configuration information to be translated.
16. The signal bearing medium of claim 15, wherein the polling is conducted at periodic time intervals.
17. The signal bearing medium of claim 1, further comprising polling the first computer to identify modifications to the policy.
18. The signal bearing medium of claim 17, wherein the polling is conducted at periodic time intervals.
19. An apparatus to manage policies on a computer having a foreign operating system, the apparatus comprising:
a policy translator configured to receive a policy on a second computer having a foreign operating system, the policy constructed on a first computer having a native operating system according to a policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system;
the policy translator further configured to execute under the foreign operating system and translate the policy from the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system to configuration information usable by the foreign operating system; and
a translator manager configured to manage the association between the policy on the first computer and the translator on the second computer.
20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the policy is a group policy.
21. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the native operating system is Windows\u2122 and the foreign operating system is UNIX\u2122 or a derivative thereof.
22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the policy is further configured to pertain to a plurality of computer workstations referenced in a directory services container.
23. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the policy is further configured to pertain to a user.
24. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the policy is further configured to comprise configuration information selected from the group consisting of organization information, organizational unit information, organizational role information, group information, domain information, domain controller information, country information, locality information, locality information, site information, profile information, user object information, template information, and alias information.
25. The apparatus of claim 19, further comprising at least one policy on the first computer, each policy thereof corresponding to a policy translator on the second computer.
26. The apparatus of claim 19, further comprising a policy editor configured to facilitate creation and editing of policies.
27. The apparatus of claim 19, further comprising a policy template configured to constrain creation and editing of policies.
28. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the translator manager is further configured to execute the translator in response to the translator manager beginning execution.
29. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the translator manager is further configured to execute the translator in response to user login.
30. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the translator manager is further configured to poll the first computer for modifications to the policy.
31. An apparatus to manage policies on a computer having a foreign operating system, the apparatus comprising:
means for receiving a policy on a second computer having a foreign operating system, the policy constructed on a first computer having a native operating system according to a policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system, and wherein the foreign operating system does not directly utilize the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system; and
means for translating the policy under the foreign operating system from the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system to configuration information usable by the foreign operating system.
32. The apparatus of claim 31, further comprising means for providing a policy template configured to constrain policy editing on the first computer.
33. The apparatus of claim 31, further comprising means for updating selected information on the second computer with the configuration information.
34. A system to manage policies on a computer having a foreign operating system, the system comprising:
a first computer having a native operating system;
a second computer having a foreign operating system;
a directory services database;
a communications network configured to facilitate communications between computers and computer peripherals;
a policy translator configured to execute under the foreign operating system and translate the policy from a policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system to configuration information useable by the foreign operating system;
a translator manager configured to manage the association between the policy on the first computer and the translator on the second computer.
35. The system of claim 34, the system further comprising a policy editor configured to facilitate creation and editing of polices.
36. The system of claim 34, the system further comprising a policy template configured to constrain creation and editing of policies.
37. The system of claim 34 wherein the directory services database resides on the first computer.
38. A method to manage policies on a computer having a foreign operating system, the method comprising:
receiving a policy on a second computer having a foreign operating system, the policy constructed on a first computer having a native operating system according to a policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system; and
executing a translator on the second computer, the translator configured to execute under the foreign operating system and translate the policy from the policy standard developed for, and utilized by, the native operating system to configuration information usable by the foreign operating system.
39. The method of claim 38, further comprising providing a policy template configured to constrain policy editing on the first computer.
40. The method of claim 38, further comprising updating selected information on the second computer with the configuration information.

1. A vaginal manipulator having an adjustable length vaginal probe, the vaginal manipulator comprising:
a shaft;
a head having an anterior side opposite a posterior side and including a core fixed to the shaft and a sleeve coupled in a sliding relationship to the core; and
a door having a distal end that is hinged to the sleeve and a proximal end that is movable away from the core of the head;
wherein a proximal end of the core defines a proximal end of the head and a distal end of the sleeve defines a distal end of the head, with the proximal end of the core fixed to the shaft;
wherein the core includes a ramp and a recess that is sized to receive a portion of the door, with the ramp and the recess formed such that a distal portion of the core is thicker than a proximal portion of the core; and
wherein the door includes an inclined surface that is formed such that the distal end of the door is thinner than the proximal end of the door.
2. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, wherein the ramp of the core displaces the proximal end of the door away from the core when the sleeve is moved in a distal direction.
3. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, further comprising an index coupled in a biased relationship with the core.
4. The vaginal manipulator of claim 3, wherein the index has a first position retained between the core and the sleeve and a second position in which the index is biased to an extended position projecting away from the anterior side of the head when the sleeve is moved away from the proximal end of the core.
5. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, further comprising an actuator mechanism coupled to the sleeve with the door coupled to the sleeve such that the door moves away from the core when the sleeve is moved in a distal direction by the actuator mechanism.
6. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, further comprising an actuator mechanism coupled to the door, with the door movable independently from the sleeve.
7. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, further comprising a handle connected to a proximal end of the shaft.
8. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, wherein the distal end of the sleeve is formed to include a pocket configured to receive a fornix of a cervix.
9. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, wherein the head has a compacted head length of L and the distal end of the sleeve is movable away from the proximal end of the core to provide the head with an extended head length of about 1.5 L.
10. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, wherein the head has a head width extending between parallel lateral sides of the head and a head thickness extending between the anterior side and the posterior side of the head, and the head width is greater than the head thickness.
11. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, comprising a plurality of indexes coupled to the core and the plurality of indexes are aligned on a central longitudinal axis of the head.
12. The vaginal manipulator of claim 1, wherein the core provides a first anterior side portion of the head and the sleeve provides a second anterior side portion of the head, and the distal end of the sleeve is movable away from the proximal end of the core to extend a length of the anterior side of the head.

a destination edge device configured to receive a first validation packet according to a switch fabric validation protocol, the destination edge device configured to validate a plurality of data paths through a distributed switch fabric from a source edge device to the destination edge device based on the first validation packet,
the destination edge device configured to send, in response to receiving the first validation packet, a second validation packet to a peripheral processing device, the destination edge device configured to send the second validation packet according to a validation protocol different from the switch fabric validation protocol.

1. An electronic locking system, comprising:
(a) a cylinder insertable within and rotatable with respect to a shell;
(b) an electrically powered lock in said cylinder including a lock member movable between an open position and a locked position, said lock member in said locked position being capable of interfering with rotation of said cylinder within said shell; and
(c) a key engageable with said cylinder, said key having a battery electrically connectable with said lock;
(d) at least one of said key and said lock being capable of generating a signal when said battery is electrically connected with said locking mechanism;
(e) said lock further including a solenoid coil, and a solenoid plunger movable between an interfering position and a non-interfering position, said plunger in said interfering position resisting movement of said lock member, and said plunger in said non-interfering position allowing movement of said lock member, said solenoid coil being electrically energizable by said battery in response to said signal so as to move said plunger from said interfering position to said non-interfering position, said lock member having a spring mechanism in said cylinder urging said lock member away from said solenoid plunger when said plunger is in said interfering position.
2. The electronic locking system of claim 1 wherein both said solenoid coil and said solenoid plunger are contained within a cavity in said cylinder.
3. The electronic locking system of claim 1 wherein said key includes a housing containing said battery, said housing being engageable with said cylinder so as to rotate said cylinder with respect to said shell by rotation of said housing.
4. The electronic locking system of claim 3 wherein said spring mechanism also urges said cylinder and housing toward a home position when said cylinder is rotated away from said home position by said housing of said key.
5. An electronic locking system, comprising:
(a) an elongate cylinder having a longitudinal axis, said cylinder being insertable within and rotatable about said axis with respect to a shell;
(b) an electrically powered lock in said cylinder including a lock member movable between an open position and a locked position, said lock member in said locked position being capable of interfering with rotation of said cylinder within said shell; and
(c) a key engageable with said cylinder, said key having a battery electrically connectable with said lock;
(d) at least one of said key and said lock being capable of generating a signal when said battery is electrically connected with said lock;
(e) said cylinder having an internal cavity containing both a solenoid coil and a solenoid plunger of said lock, and said cylinder defining a keyway, said cavity being spaced apart from said keyway longitudinally with respect to said cylinder, said solenoid coil being electrically energizable by said battery in response to said signal so as to move said plunger to allow movement of said lock member from said locked position to said open position.
6. The electronic locking system of claim 5 wherein said cavity has a greater axial length than said keyway.
7. The electronic locking system of claim 5 wherein said key includes a housing containing said battery, said housing being engageable with said keyway so as to rotate said cylinder with respect to said shell by rotation of said housing.
8. An electronic locking system comprising:
(a) a lock; and
(b) a key engageable with said lock, said key including a battery and a clock powered by said battery, said clock being capable of signaling a time to said lock while said key is engaged with said lock.
9. The electronic locking system of claim 8 wherein said key includes a key computer system, said key computer system causing said time to be signaled to said lock.
10. The electronic locking system of claim 9 wherein said key computer system causes said time to be signaled to said lock automatically when said key is engaged with said lock.
11. The electronic locking system of claim 8 wherein:
(a) said lock includes a lock computer system electrically connectable to said battery and capable of signaling an identification of said lock to said key; and
(b) said key includes a key computer system including a memory capable of storing said identification of said lock in association with time data from said clock, regardless of whether or not said lock is openable by said key.
12. The electronic locking system of claim 8 wherein said lock includes a lock computer system including a memory electrically connectable to said battery, said lock computer system being capable of storing time data from said clock.
13. An electronic locking system comprising;
(a) a lock;
(b) a key engageable with said lock, said key including a battery and a clock powered by said battery;
(c) said lock including a lock computer system electrically connectable to said battery and capable of signaling an identification of said lock to said key in response to an electrical connection to said battery;
(d) said key including a memory capable of storing said identification of said lock regardless of whether or not said lock is openable by said key.
14. The electronic locking system of claim 13 wherein said memory is capable of storing said identification of said lock in association with time data from said clock.
