1. A spinal fixation system for orthopedic rod implantation, comprising:
a bone screw having a threaded shank portion and a substantially spherical head portion;
a rod base member having a pair of spaced apart arms at least partially defining a pair of slots, said arms having a set of first inwardly facing interior first threaded surfaces forming a portion of a pass-through aperture extending along the length of said spaced apart arms and adapted to allow said threaded shank portion to pass between said spaced apart arms and having a seat adapted to retain said spherical head portion in the pass-through aperture, said rod base member also including a second threaded surface with threads different than threads on the first threaded surfaces;
a cap member positioned adjacent an end portion of said spherical head portion, said cap member providing a seating surface for an upper surface portion of said spherical head and a support base for a stabilizing rod placed within said slots; and
a set screw threadably engageable along said first threaded surfaces for engaging a stabilizing rod against said cap member wherein said cap member and set screw secure said rod base member in a fixed position by frictional engagement with said spherical head portion of said bone screw.
2. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 including a stabilizing rod positioned in the slots and between the set screw and cap member.
3. The spinal fixation system of claim 2 wherein said first threaded surfaces being are adapted to engage said set screw and sized to allow unobstructed insertion of said bone screw threaded shank through said pass-through aperture.
4. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein said pass-through aperture includes a seat surface receptive to a surface portion of said spherical head portion.
5. The spinal fixation system of claim 2 wherein said slots being generally U-shaped and being on opposite sides of the rod base member with the arms therebetween.
6. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein the threads on said set screw are configured to prevent splaying of said rod member base.
7. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein said cap member having a sidewall that is generally cylindrical in shape and is provided with a generally flat surface on one end and generally semi spherical surface on an opposite end.
8. The spinal fixation system of claim 7 wherein the cap member further includes an aperture which extends between the generally flat surface on one end of the cap member and the generally semi spherical surface on the opposite end of the cap member.
9. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein the cap member further includes resilient friction fingers on the cylindrical wall thereof which are in opposed relationship to one another.
10. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein the cap member includes annular ridges on the generally cylindrical sidewall of the cap member at the top and bottom thereof.
11. The spinal fixation system of claim 10 wherein the base member includes an interference diameter within the pass-through aperture that cooperates with the top annular ridge to prevent the cap member from backing up.
12. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein the cap member includes an aperture opening onto the seating surface.
13. The spinal fixation system of claim 1 wherein the head portion of the screw includes a tool socket.
14. The spinal fixation system of claim 2 wherein the set screw includes generally opposed first and second end walls, said first end wall being generally flat and in abutting relationship to said rod, said second end wall being generally flat and having a tool socket opening thereon for driving said set screw.
15. A spinal fixation system for orthopedic rod implantation, comprising:
a bone screw having first threads on a threaded shank portion and having a substantially spherical head portion, said threaded shank portion having a decreasing thread diameter adjacent a distal end of the threaded shank portion;
a rod base member having a sidewall with a pair of spaced apart arms at least partially defining a pair of slots opening into a pass-through aperture, said arms having a set of first inwardly facing first surfaces forming a portion of the pass-through aperture extending along the length of said spaced apart arms, said first surfaces having inwardly extending second threads with a finer pitch than the first threads and adapted to allow said threaded shank portion to pass between said spaced apart arms, said rod base member having a seat adapted to retain said spherical head portion in the pass-through aperture, said rod base member also including a second surface portion extending for the first surfaces along at least a portion of the length of the pass through aperture;
a cap member positioned in the pass-through aperture adjacent an end portion of said spherical head portion, said cap member providing a seating surface for an upper surface portion of said spherical head and a support base for a stabilizing rod placed within said slots; and
a set screw threadably engageable along said first threaded surfaces for engaging a stabilizing rod against said cap member wherein said cap member and set screw secure said rod base member in a fixed position by frictional engagement with said spherical head portion of said bone screw.
16. The spinal fixation system of claim 15 wherein the second surface portion being threaded with threads having a coarser pitch than the pitch of the second threads.

1. An acceleration sensor comprising:
a piezoelectric vibration device;
an oscillation circuit; and
a detection circuit,
wherein
the piezoelectric vibration device includes a substrate, an insulation layer formed above the substrate, a vibration section forming layer formed above the insulation layer, a vibration section formed in a cantilever shape in a first opening section that penetrates the vibration section forming layer, a second opening section that penetrates the insulation layer and formed below the first opening section and the vibration section, and a piezoelectric element section formed on the vibration section, the piezoelectric element section including a lower electrode, a piezoelectric layer formed on the lower electrode, and an upper electrode formed on the piezoelectric layer, the lower electrode having a larger area than an area of the piezoelectric layer, extending in a first direction toward the first opening section to a greater extent than the piezoelectric layer and the upper electrode, and extending in a second direction, opposite the first direction, to a greater extent than the piezoelectric layer and the upper electrode,
the oscillation circuit vibrates the piezoelectric vibration device at a resonance frequency, and
the detection circuit detects a change in the frequency of vibration of the piezoelectric vibration device which is caused by an acceleration applied in a direction in which the vibration section extends, and outputs a signal corresponding to the acceleration based on the change in the frequency.
2. An acceleration sensor according to claim 1, wherein the piezoelectric layer is may be formed from at least one of lead zirconate titanate, aluminum nitride, solid solution of lead zirconate titanate and solid solution of aluminum nitride.
3. An acceleration sensor according to claim 1, wherein the insulation layer is formed from silicon oxide, and the vibration section forming layer is formed from silicon.
4. An electronic device comprising the acceleration sensor recited in claim 1.

1. A process for the production of a polyurethane product by reaction of a mixture of
(a) at least one organic polyisocyanate with
(b) a polyol composition comprising
(b1) from 0 to 99 percent by weight of at least one polyol compound having a nominal starter functionality of 2 to 8 and a hydroxyl number from 20 to 800, and
(b2) from 1 to 100 percent by weight of at least one polyol wherein the polyol has tertiary amine end-capping having autocatalytic function and no carbonate, urethane or ester groups when the tertiary amine is a dialkylamino moiety,
(c) optionally in the presence of one or more polyurethane catalysts, with the proviso that no tin catalyst is used when the tertiary amine of polyol (b2) is a dialkylamino group in a position Beta to a terminal hydroxyl moiety,
(d) optionally in the presence of a blowing agent; and
(e) optionally additives or auxiliary agents known per se for the production of polyurethane foams, elastomers andor coatings.
2. The process of claim 1 wherein (b) is a polyol blend containing 5 to 99 percent by weight of (b1) and 1 to 95 percent by weight of (b2).
3. A process for the production of a flexible polyurethane foam by reaction of a mixture of
(a) at least one organic polyisocyanate with
(b) a polyol composition having an average functionality of 3 to 6 and an average hydroxyl number of 20 to 100 wherein the polyol comprises, based on the total amount of polyol component (b)
(b1) from 5 to 99 percent by weight of a polyol having a functionality of 2 to 8 and a hydroxyl number of 20 to 100 and
(b2) from 1 to 95 percent by weight of at least one polyol wherein the polyol has tertiary amine end-capping having autocatalytic function and no carbonate, urethane or ester groups when the tertiary amine is a dialkylamino moiety,
(c) in the presence of a blowing agent,
(d) optionally in the presence of one or more polyurethane catalysts, with the proviso that no tin catalyst is used when the tertiary amine of polyol (b2) is a dialkylamino group in a position Beta to a terminal hydroxyl moiety, and
(e) optionally additives or auxiliary agents known per se for the production of a flexible polyurethane foam.
4. The process of claim 3 wherein the blowing agent is water in an amount from 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of component (b).
5. The process of claim 4 wherein the blowing agent further comprises carbon dioxide added either as a gas or as a liquid.
6. The process of claim 3 wherein a carboxylic or hydroxyl carboxylic acid is added to the reaction mixture.
7. The process of claim 3 wherein polyol (b2) is a polyol having a functionality of 2 to 8 and a hydroxyl number of 20 to 100 which is end-capped by reaction with a monoalkyl amine, a dialkyl amine, a cyclic amine or a polyamine wherein the alkyl group is a C1 to C3 alkyl group and the cyclic amine is a cycloaliphatic or aromatic amine containing 4 to 10 atoms in the ring.
8. The process of claim 7 wherein the polyol (b2) is formed by reaction of the polyol with dimethylamine, isopropylamine, 3-dimethylamino)-1-propylamine, imidazole, 2-methylimidazole, 1-(3-aminopropyl)-imidazole, 1-methyl piperazine or N,N-dimethyl aminopropylamine.
9. The process of claim 8 wherein the polyol (b2) if formed by reaction of the polyol with dimethylamine, 2-methylimidazole or imidazole.
10. The process of claim 7 wherein the polyol (b2) is formed by reaction of the polyol with an acrylate or methacrylate.
11. The process of claim 7 wherein the polyol (b2) is formed by reaction of the polyol with an aminoalkyl halide.
12. The process of claim 7 wherein the polyol (b2) is formed by reaction of the polyol with a glycicylamine.
13. The process of claim 7 wherein the polyol is a polyol containing a primary amine group and (b2) is formed by methylating at least a portion of the primary amine groups.
14. The process of any one of claims 7 to 13 wherein the polyisocyanate is a toluene diisocyanate.
15. The process of any one of claim 3 or 6 to 13 for the production of a foam containing an integral skin.
16. The process of any one of claims 3 to 14 wherein the polyisocyanate (a) contains at least one polyisocyanate that is a reaction product of an excess of polyisocyanate with polyol (b1), (b2) or a mixture thereof.
17. A polyol blend comprising
(i) from 5 to 99 percent by weight of at least one polyol compound having a nominal starter functionality of 2 to 8 and a hydroxyl number from 20 to 800, and
(ii) from 1 to 100 percent by weight of at least one polyol wherein the polyol has tertiary amine end-capping and contains no carbonate, urethane or ester groups when the tertiary amine is a dialkylamino moiety.

1. A window or door assembly comprising a frame member, and a leaf hingedly moveable relative to the frame member, the leaf having a rear edge which in the closed position of the leaf lies adjacent the frame member, the assembly further comprising stop means for acting between the frame member and said rear edge of the leaf for holding the leaf in an open position, said stop means being substantially concealed from view between the rear edge and the frame member when the leaf is in a closed position.
2. An assembly according to claim 1, wherein the stop means comprises a releasably engageable member.
3. An assembly according to claim 2, wherein the releasbly engageable member is releasable by controlling a supply of electrical or hydraulic power thereto.
4. An assembly according to claim 3, wherein the releasably engageable member automatically releases when the supply of electrical or hydraulic power is cut or substantially reduced.
5. An assembly according to any of claims 2 to 4, wherein the stop means comprises a first member on the leaf inter-engageable with a second member on the frame member.
6. An assembly according to any of claims 2 to 5, wherein the stop means comprises a member separable from a counterpart member to release the stop means.
7. An assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the stop means comprises means for preventing the leaf from opening beyond a predetermined open position.
8. An assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the stop means comprises a hook on one of the leaf and the frame.
9. An assembly according to claim 8, wherein the stop means further comprises a member on the other of the leaf and fame member for co-operating with the hook.
10. An assembly according to claim 8 or 9, wherein the hook is on the leaf.
11. An assembly according to any preceding claim, wherein the stop means further comprises dead-bolt means for preventing the leaf from being lifted laterally away from the frame member when the leaf is in a closed position.
12. An assembly according to claim 11, wherein the dead-bolt means comprises a spigot and an aperture in which the spigot is received, in use, when the door is in the closed position.
13. An assembly according to claim 12, wherein the spigot comprises a hook engaging slot.
14. An assembly according to claim 12, wherein the spigot is retractable.
15. An assembly according to any preceding claim, further comprising hinge means hingedly coupling the leaf to the frame member.
16. An assembly according to claim 15, where the hinge means comprises butt hinge means.
17. Stop means for use in an assembly as claimed in any preceding claim.
18. Stop means according to claim 17, wherein the stop means comprises first means for attachment to a said rear edge of a door or window, and a second means for attachment to a said frame member.
19. Stop means according to claim 18, wherein the first and second means are inter-engageable separate units.
20. A release control system for remotely opting at least one releasably engageable member constructed according to any one of claims 3 to 16.
21. A release control system according to claim 20 operable to release at least one said releasably engageable member in response to receiving a signal from a fire alarm system.
22. A release control system according to claim 20 or 21 operable to release at least one said releasably engageable member in the event that a power supply unit fails.
23. A release control system according to any one of claims 20 to 22 further comprising a programmable release unit, wherein said programmable release unit is operable to cause the release of individual or groups of said at least one releasably engageable member in response to user andor automatic input signals.
24. A window or door assembly, or a stop means for a window or door assembly, being substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to any of FIGS. 1 to 8 of the accompanying drawings.
