1. A machine readable medium storing an image-viewing application for execution by at least one processing unit, the image-viewing application comprising sets of instructions for:
displaying a graphical user interface (GUI) for viewing images that comprises a particular display area located on a first side of the GUI;
receiving input to move the particular display area to an opposite side of the GUI; and
in response to the movement of the particular display area:
moving a first set of GUI items from one side of the GUI to the other side while preserving a left to right order of the first set of items; and
moving a second set of GUI items from one side of the GUI to the other side while reversing a left to right order of the second set of items.
2. The machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the first set of GUI items comprises a set of editing tool activation items.
3. The machine readable medium of claim 2, wherein left to right order of the editing tool activation items reflects an order in which users perform edits.
4. The machine readable medium of claim 1, wherein the particular display area is a thumbnail display area for displaying thumbnails of images.
5. A method for providing an image-viewing application, the method comprising:
providing a first GUI for right-handed users, the first GUI comprising an image-selection window on the left side of the GUI, a first set of GUI items in a first particular order from left to right and a second set of GUI items in a second particular order from left to right; and
providing a second GUI for left-handed users, the second GUI comprising the image-selection window on the right side of the GUI, the first set of GUI items in the first particular order from right to left and the second set of GUI items in the second particular order from left to right.
6. The method of claim 4 further comprising providing a user interface tool for activating in a first orientation in the first GUI and a second, different orientation in the second GUI.
7. The method of claim 5, wherein the user interface tool is a zoom tool.
8. The method of claim 5, wherein the first set of GUI items comprises a set of image editing and image tagging GUI items for display when a user has not activated any particular sets of editing tools, and the second set of GUI items are for display irrespective of whether different items are selected.
9. The method of claim 5, wherein the second set of GUI items comprise a set of image editing and image tagging GUI items for display when a user has not activated any particular sets of editing tools, and the first set of GUI items are for display irrespective of whether a user has selected a particular set of editing tools.
10. The method of claim 5, wherein the image-viewing application is for operation on a device with both portrait and landscape modes, and the first and second GUIs are both for operation in landscape mode.
11. A machine readable medium storing an image-viewing application for execution by at least one processing unit, the image-viewing application comprising sets of instructions for:
displaying an image in a graphical user interface (GUI) on a touch-sensitive display;
receiving a touch input over the displayed image through the touch sensitive display to activate a particular GUI tool;
when the GUI is in a left-handed mode, displaying the particular tool in a first orientation; and
when the GUI is in a right-handed mode, displaying the particular tool in a first orientation.
12. The machine readable medium of claim 11, wherein the tool is a circular zoom tool that magnifies a portion of the displayed image.
13. The machine readable medium of claim 12, wherein the tool comprises magnification information, the magnification information located on (i) the right side of the tool when the GUI is in the left-handed mode and (ii) the left side of the tool when the GUI is in the right-handed mode.
14. The machine readable medium of claim 12, wherein a zoom level of the tool is modifiable.
15. The machine readable medium of claim 11, wherein the touch input comprises two separate touch inputs that at least partially coincide in time.
16. A machine readable medium storing an image-viewing application for execution by at least one processing unit, the image-viewing application comprising sets of instructions for:
displaying an image in a graphical user interface (GUI) on a touch-sensitive display;
receiving two separate touch inputs over the displayed image through the touch-sensitive display, the two separate touch inputs at least partially coincidental;
in response to the touch inputs, activating a moveable GUI tool for magnifying a portion of the displayed image.
17. The machine readable medium of claim 16, wherein the set of instructions for activating the moveable GUI tool comprises sets of instructions for:
calculating a midpoint between the two separate touch inputs; and
centering the moveable GUI tool at the calculated midpoint.
18. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
receiving a counterclockwise rotation gesture of the two touch inputs;
decreasing a magnification level of the GUI tool in response to the counterclockwise rotation gesture when the GUI is in a right-handed mode; and
increasing the magnification level of the GUI tool in response to the counterclockwise rotation gesture when the GUI is in a left-handed mode.
19. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
receiving a clockwise rotation gesture of the two touch inputs; and
increasing a magnification level of the GUI tool in response to the clockwise rotation gesture when the GUI is in a right-handed mode; and
decreasing the magnification level of the GUI tool in response to the clockwise rotation gesture when the GUI is in a left-handed mode.
20. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
receiving a single touch input over the GUI tool followed by a movement of the single touch input along the touch-sensitive display to a different location in the image display area; and
moving the GUI tool to the different location in response to the movement of the single touch input.
21. A machine readable medium storing an image-viewing application for execution by at least one processing unit, the image-viewing application comprising sets of instructions for:
displaying a thumbnail display area comprising a set of thumbnails on a particular side of a touch-sensitive display, the thumbnails for selection in order to display corresponding images in a preview display area;
through the touch-sensitive display, receiving a swipe gesture over the thumbnail display area directed towards the particular side of the touch-sensitive display; and
in response to receiving the swipe gesture, removing the thumbnail display area from the display.
22. The machine readable medium of claim 21, wherein the set of instructions for removing the thumbnail display area from the display comprises a set of instructions for displaying the thumbnail display area sliding off the particular side of the touch-sensitive display.
23. The machine readable medium of claim 21, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
with the thumbnail display area removed from the display, receiving a second swipe gesture through the touch-sensitive display near the particular side of the touch-sensitive display and directed away from the particular side of the touch-sensitive display; and
in response to receiving the second swipe gesture, moving the thumbnail display area back into the display.
24. The machine readable medium of claim 21, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
through the touch-sensitive display, receiving (i) a touch over a border between the thumbnail display area and the image display area and (ii) a subsequent drag gesture away from the particular side of the touch-sensitive display; and
when the drag gesture away from the particular side reaches a threshold distance, rearranging the set of thumbnails in the thumbnail display area into an increased number of columns.
25. The machine readable medium of claim 24, wherein the set of thumbnails has a maximum number of columns, wherein when the maximum number of columns is reached, the application does not execute the instructions for rearranging the set of thumbnails into an increased number of columns.
26. The machine readable medium of claim 21, wherein the image-viewing application further comprises sets of instructions for:
through the touch-sensitive display, receiving (i) a touch over a border between the thumbnail display area and the preview display area and (ii) a subsequent drag gesture towards the particular side of the touch-sensitive display; and
when the drag gesture toward the particular side reaches a threshold distance, rearranging the set of thumbnails in the image browser display area into a decreased number of columns.
27. The machine readable medium of claim 26, wherein the set of thumbnails has a minimum number of columns, wherein when the minimum number of columns is reached, the application does not execute the instructions for rearranging the set of thumbnails into a decreased number of columns.

1. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording compressed data generated by compressing data of contents utilized in said external device by a prescribed compression method; and
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said compressed data to said external device through said connector.
2. The card-type recording medium according to claim 1, wherein
said mask ROM further records information for identifying said prescribed compression method.
3. The card-type recording medium according to claim 1, wherein
said mask ROM further records program data describing a program of a prescribed expansion method corresponding to said prescribed compression method, and
said output means includes a microprocessor connected to said connector and said mask ROM for expanding said compressed data by said prescribed expansion method with said program data and outputting consequently obtained expanded data to said external device through said connector.
4. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording error correction-coded data, to which a prescribed error correction code is appended, of contents utilized in said external device; and
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said error correction-coded data to said external device through said connector.
5. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording error correction-coded data, to which a prescribed error correction code is appended, of contents utilized in said external device; and
error correction means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for correcting an error of said error correction-coded data by a prescribed error correction method corresponding to said prescribed error correction code and outputting consequently obtained corrected data to said external device through said connector.
6. The card-type recording medium according to claim 5, wherein
said mask ROM further records program data describing a program of said prescribed error correction method corresponding to said prescribed error correction code, and
said error correction means includes a microprocessor connected to said connector and said mask ROM for correcting said error of said error correction-coded data by said prescribed error correction method with said program data and outputting said consequently obtained corrected data to said external device through said connector.
7. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data, to which information related to duplication and copyright of data is appended, of contents utilized in said external device; and
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data of said contents to said external device through said connector.
8. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device; and
encryption means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for encrypting said contents by a prescribed encryption method and outputting consequently obtained encrypted data to said external device through said connector.
9. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
a card-type sheath sheathing said connector and said mask ROM as well as said output means, wherein
a display purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only is made on said sheath.
10. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
a card-type sheath sheathing said connector and said mask ROM as well as said output means, wherein
a molded part purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only is formed on the surface of said sheath.
11. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
a card-type sheath sheathing said connector and said mask ROM as well as said output means, wherein
a notch or a hole purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only is formed on the surface of said sheath.
12. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
a card-type sheath sheathing said connector and said mask ROM as well as said output means, wherein
a light reflector purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only is formed on the surface of said sheath.
13. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
means generating a magnetic field or means cutting off a magnetic field purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only.
14. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device;
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector; and
a card-type sheath sheathing said connector and said mask ROM as well as said output means, wherein
said sheath is provided with a fixed write protect switch including a write protect switch integrally formed on said sheath or a write protect switch formed by fixing a component.
15. A card-type recording medium comprising:
a connector for connection with an external device;
a mask ROM recording data of contents utilized in said external device; and
output means connected to said connector and said mask ROM for outputting said data to said external device through said connector, wherein
said output means comprises a register recording information of a state related to writing of said card-type recording medium, and
said register records information purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only.
16. The card-type recording medium according to claim 15, wherein
when writing of information into said mask ROM is attempted from said external device through said connector,
said output means outputs the purport that said writing is unsuccessful to said external device on the basis of said information recorded in said register.
17. A card-type recording medium reader comprising:
read means reading data of contents from a card-type recording medium recording said data of said contents; and
recognition means recognizing whether or not said notch or said hole provided in said card-type recording medium according to claim 11 is present in said card-type recording medium.
18. A card-type recording medium reader comprising:
read means reading data of contents from a card-type recording medium recording said data of said contents; and
recognition means recognizing whether or not said light reflector provided in said card-type recording medium according to claim 12 is present in said card-type recording medium.
19. A card-type recording medium reader comprising:
read means reading data of contents from a card-type recording medium recording said data of said contents; and
recognition means recognizing whether or not said means generating a magnetic field or said means cutting off a magnetic field provided in said card-type recording medium according to claim 13 is present in said card-type recording medium.
20. A card-type recording medium reader comprising:
read means reading data of contents from a card-type recording medium comprising a register recording information of a state related to writing and said data of said contents; and
recognition means recognizing whether or not information purporting that said card-type recording medium is read-only is present in said register of said card-type recording medium.
21. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 17, wherein
said card-type recording medium also records at least either a control program describing a procedure for expanding a function of said card-type recording medium reader or control data playing an auxiliary role when expanding said function of said card-type recording medium reader,
said read means automatically reads said data of said contents and at least either said control program or said control data in response to the result of recognition in said recognition means, and
said card-type recording medium reader expands said function with at least either said control program or said control data.
22. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 17, further comprising:
display means displaying the result of recognition in said recognition means.
23. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 18, wherein
said card-type recording medium also records at least either a control program describing a procedure for expanding a function of said card-type recording medium reader or control data playing an auxiliary role when expanding said function of said card-type recording medium reader,
said read means automatically reads said data of said contents and at least either said control program or said control data in response to the result of recognition in said recognition means, and
said card-type recording medium reader expands said function with at least either said control program or said control data.
24. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 11 further comprising:
display means displaying the result of recognition in said recognition means.
25. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 19, wherein
said card-type recording medium also records at least either a control program describing a procedure for expanding a function of said card-type recording medium reader or control data playing an auxiliary role when expanding said function of said card-type recording medium reader,
said read means automatically reads said data of said contents and at least either said control program or said control data in response to the result of recognition in said recognition means, and
said card-type recording medium reader expands said function with at least either said control program or said control data.
26. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 19, further comprising:
display means displaying the result of recognition in said recognition means.
27. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 20, wherein
said card-type recording medium also records at least either a control program describing a procedure for expanding a function of said card-type recording medium reader or control data playing an auxiliary role when expanding said function of said card-type recording medium reader,
said read means automatically reads said data of said contents and at least either said control program or said control data in response to the result of recognition in said recognition means, and
said card-type recording medium reader expands said function with at least either said control program or said control data.
28. The card-type recording medium reader according to claim 20 further comprising:
display means displaying the result of recognition in said recognition means.
