1. A portable device, comprising:
one or more processors;
a display;
a wireless modem configured to enable the portable device to communicate over a network;

utilize a dummy moniker configured to redirect input and output to and from the media element;
receive notification of an incoming VOIP call on a push notification channel supported on the network;
responsively to the notification, dispatch the incoming VOIP call to a background agent host process for processing;
launch a foreground user interface (UI) host process to present a UI to a user on the display;
inspect the dummy moniker to ascertain whether input to the media element is provided by the background agent host process; and
responsively to the dummy moniker, accept input at the media element from the background agent host process, the background agent host process configured to write into a texture that is commonly accessible by the foreground UI host process and background agent host process using a shared handle.
2. The portable device of claim 1 in which the executable instructions further cause the device to composite the texture into the UI using the foreground UI host process.
3. The portable device of claim 2 in which the executable instructions further cause the device to render the UI during the VOIP call.
4. The portable device of claim 1 in which the background agent host process executes for a duration of the VOIP call.
5. The portable device of claim 1 in which the background agent host process writes video into the texture.
6. The portable device of claim 1 in which the foreground UI host process terminates when the VOIP call is terminated.
7. The portable device of claim 1 in which the UI host process generates an incoming call notification that is written into the texture.
8. The portable device of claim 1 in which the executable instructions further cause the device to allocate hardware resources to the background agent host process to maintain a predetermined level of quality for the VOIP call.
9. The portable device of claim 1 in which the background agent host process receives and decodes media packets associated with the VOIP call and writes the decoded media packets into the texture.
10. The portable device of claim 1 in which the agent host process includes a keep-alive agent for periodically communicating with a VOIP server over the network.

The claims below are in addition to those above.
All refrences to claim(s) which appear below refer to the numbering after this setence.

1. An apparatus for application of surgical clips to body tissue, the apparatus comprising:

a housing;
a jaw mounted adjacent a distal end portion of the housing, the jaw being movable between an open spaced-apart condition and a closed approximated condition;
a clip carrier disposed in the shaft assembly and defining a clip channel,
a plurality of surgical clips slidably disposed within the clip channel of the clip carrier;
a pusher bar reciprocally disposed within the housing of the shaft assembly, the pusher bar being configured to load a distal-most surgical clip, of the plurality of surgical clips, into the jaws during each distal advancement of the pusher bar, the pusher bar including a proximally extending catch;
a clip follower slidably disposed within the clip channel of the clip carrier and disposed proximally of the plurality of surgical clips, the clip follower includes a lock-out tab extending from a surface thereof, the lock-out tab defining a window, wherein the window of the lock-out tab receives the catch of the pusher bar following a firing of a final surgical clip thereby preventing movement of the pusher bar in a proximal direction.
2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein following a firing of a final surgical clip the clip follow is prevented from moving proximally.
3. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the pusher bar defines a catch window, and wherein the catch of the pusher bar extending proximally into the catch window; and
wherein the lock-out tab is biased against a surface of the pusher bar such that following the firing of the final surgical clip, the lock-out tab of the clip follower is in registration with the catch window of the pusher bar, whereby the lock-out tab extends into the catch window, and whereby the window of the lock-out tab is moved into axial alignment with a travel path of the catch of the pusher bar to receive the catch of the pusher bar.
4. The apparatus according to claim 3, further comprising:
a connector plate reciprocally disposed within the shaft assembly, wherein the connector plate is detachably connectable to the pusher bar, wherein during an initial distal movement of the connector plate the pusher bar is distally advanced and during a further distal movement of the connector plate the connector plate is disconnected from the pusher bar.
5. The apparatus according to claim 4, further comprising:
an advancer plate reciprocally disposed within the shaft assembly, the advancer plate including at least one fin engageable by a shoulder of the pusher bar, wherein the shoulder of the pusher bar engages the at least one fin of the advancer plate during a distal and a proximal movement of the pusher bar to effectuate one of a distal and proximal movement of the advancer plate.
6. The apparatus according to claim 5, wherein the clip follower includes:
a first tab projecting from a first surface thereof; and
a second tab projecting from a second surface thereof,
