1. A process for creating a directional pattern on a surface of a polyvinyl butyral sheet comprising the step of extruding molten polyvinyl butyral using a melt fracture extrusion process, wherein the pattern can be controlled by varying extruder die pressure and wherein an embossing tool is not used, characterized in that the directional pattern is a herringbone pattern that is created using a die pressure of less than about 37 kgcm2.
2. A process of claim 1 additionally characterized in that extruder lip steam pressure is 15 kgcm2 or less.
3. A process of claim 2 wherein the lip steam pressure is 10 kgcm2 or less.
4. A process for creating a directional pattern on a surface of a polyvinyl butyral sheet comprising the step of extruding molten polyvinyl butyral using a melt fracture extrusion process, wherein the pattern can be controlled by varying the extruder die pressure and extruder lip steam pressure and wherein an embossing tool is not used, characterized in that the directional pattern is a washboard pattern, wherein the washboard pattern is created using a die pressure greater than about 58 kgcm2.
5. A process for producing a laminate comprising the steps of
A. forming a polyvinyl butyral sheet having a directional surface pattern by extruding molten polyvinyl butyral using a melt fracture extrusion process, wherein the pattern can be varied by varying extruder die pressure and wherein an embossing tool is not used, characterized in that the directional pattern is a herringbone pattern or a washboard pattern, wherein the washboard pattern is created using a die pressure of greater than about 58 kgcm2 and wherein the herringbone pattern is created using a die pressure of less than about 37 kgcm2; and
B. forming a layered assembly comprising said polyvinyl butyral sheet by contacting said polyvinyl butyral sheet with at least one layer of glass;
C. forming a pre-press by heating and de-airing said layered assembly under vacuum; and
D. heating said pre-press in an autoclave while applying heat and pressure to bond said polyvinyl butyral sheet and said at least one glass layer, thereby forming a laminate.
6. A process of claim 5 wherein the layered assembly is heated to a temperature of at least 100\xb0 C. during formation of the pre-press.
7. A process of claim 5 wherein the polyvinyl butyral layer is differentially stretched during formation of the pre-press.
8. A process for producing an article selected from the group consisting of windshield laminates and automotive side-glass laminates comprising the steps of
A. providing a polyvinyl butyral sheet having a herringbone pattern on at least one surface that has been prepared by a process comprising the step of extruding molten polyvinyl butyral using a melt fracture extrusion process, wherein the pattern can be controlled by varying extruder die pressure and wherein an embossing tool is not used, characterized in that the directional pattern is a herringbone pattern that is created using a die pressure of less than about 37 kgcm2.
B. shaping said polyvinyl butyral sheet by differentially stretching said sheet at a temperature of at least about 100\xb0 C.;
C. cooling said differentially stretched polyvinyl butyral sheet to a temperature of at least about 10\xb0 C.; and
D. laminating said cooled differentially stretched polyvinyl butyral sheet to a layer of glass selected from the group consisting of windshield glass and automotive side-glass.

17. A pharmaceutical composition comprising therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1 having formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
18. A method of treating neuropathic pain, nociceptive pain, and inflammatory pain in a mammal in need of such treatment comprising administering to the mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1 having formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A method of treating a disorder selected from the group consisting of inflammatory disorders, immune disorders, neurological disorders, cancers of the immune system, respiratory disorders, and cardiovascular disorders in a mammal in need of such treatment, comprising administering to the mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1 having formula (I), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
20. A method of providing neuroprotection in a mammal in need of such treatment comprising administering to the mammal a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of claim 1 having formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
