We claim:

1. A hollow-shaped material, comprising:
two substantially parallel face plates;
a first rib 105 (115) for connecting said face plates together at each end portion of said face plates; and
a second rib 103 (113) for connecting said face plates together at positions closer to the opposite end portion than said first rib; wherein
the plate thickness of said face plates at connecting regions between said first rib and said face plates are thicker than the plate thickness of said face plates at connecting regions between said second rib and said face plates; and
said thickened face plates are thickened by projecting toward the opposing face plate side.
2. A hollow-shaped material according to claim 1, wherein the plate thickness of said face plates between said first rib and said second rib adjacent thereto are decreased toward said second rib side.
3. A hollow-shaped material, comprising:
two substantially parallel face plates;
a first rib 105 (115) for connecting said face plates together at each end portion of said face plates; and
a second rib 103 (113) for connecting said face plates together at positions closer to the opposite end portion than each of said first rib; wherein
a plurality of fins projecting to outer surface side are equipped to the vicinity of said end portions.
4. A structural body, comprising:
two hollow-shaped materials being welded together, said hollow-shaped material comprising two substantially parallel face plates, a first rib 105 (115) for connecting said face plates together at each end portion of said face plates, and a second rib 103 (113) for connecting said face plates together at positions closer to the opposite end portion than each of said first rib; wherein
the plate thickness of said face plates at connecting regions between said first rib and said face plates are thicker than the plate thickness of said face plates at connecting regions between said second rib and said face plates; and
said thickened face plates are thickened by projecting toward the opposite face plate side.
5. A structural body according to claim 4, wherein the plate thickness of said face plates between said first rib and said second rib adjacent thereto are decreased toward said second rib side.

1. A light emitting device comprising a substrate transparent at the emission wavelength and an active layer structure formed on such substrate,
wherein the light emitting device has a first-conduction-type clad layer having the same conduction type as said substrate and a single first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer for suppressing spectral-intensity-modulation due to the substrate-mode,
wherein said first-conduction-type clad layer is provided between said substrate and said active layer structure,
wherein said first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer is provided between said substrate and said first-conduction-type clad layer,
wherein a relation expressed by the following inequality is satisfied:
nsub>nclad1>nLIL1\u2003\u2003(inequality 1)
\u2003where nsub represents the refractive index at the emission wavelength of said substrate, nclad1 represents the real part of an average refractive index at the emission wavelength of said first-conduction-type clad layer, and nLIL1 represents the refractive index at the emission wavelength of said first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer, and
wherein the thickness of said first-conduction-type clad layer is 2.0 to 3.5 \u03bcm.
2. A light emitting device comprising a substrate transparent at the emission wavelength and an active layer structure formed on such substrate,
wherein the light emitting device has a first-conduction-type clad layer having the same conduction type as said substrate and a single first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer for suppressing spectral-intensity-modulation due to the substrate-mode,
wherein said first-conduction-type clad layer is provided between said substrate and said active layer structure,
wherein said first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer is provided between said substrate and said first-conduction-type clad layer,
wherein a relation expressed by the following inequality is satisfied:

\u2003where n sub represents the refractive index at the emission wavelength of said substrate, nclad1 represents the real part of an average refractive index at the emission wavelength of said first-conduction-type clad layer, and nLIL1 represents the refractive index at the emission wavelength of said first-conduction-type, low-refractive-index layer, and
wherein the first-conduction type clad layer has a thickness of 0.5 \u03bcm or more.
