1. A method of managing power at a peripheral device, said method comprising:
receiving, from a base device, a power management message, said power management message including an indication of a duration of a period of reduced operation for said peripheral device;
according to said indication:
reducing operation of said peripheral device at a first time, said reducing operation including suspending a timer related to a cryptographic key, said first time closely following a time of receipt of said power management message; and
resuming operation of said peripheral device at a second time, said resuming operation including restarting said timer related to said cryptographic key, said second time comprising a future time determined by adding said duration to said first time.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein said peripheral device comprises a smart card reader.
3. The method of claim 1 wherein said receiving said power management message occurs over a wireless communication channel.
4. The method of claim 3 wherein said wireless communication channel comprises a Bluetooth\u2122 communication channel.
5. The method of claim 3 wherein implementing said reduced operation comprises terminating maintenance of said wireless communication channel.
6. The method of claim 1 further comprising, subsequent to said resuming operation, reestablishing a previously established communication channel with said second device.
7. A peripheral device comprising:
a processor adapted to:
receive, from a base device, said power management message, said power management message including an indication of a duration of a period of reduced operation for said peripheral device; and
according to said indication:
reduce operation of said peripheral device at a first time, said reducing operation including suspending a timer related to a cryptographic key, said first time closely following a time of receipt of said power management message; and
resume operation of said peripheral device at a second time, said resuming operation including restarting said timer related to said cryptographic key, said second time comprising a future time determined by adding said duration to said first time.
8. The peripheral device of claim 7 wherein said peripheral device comprises a smart card reader.
9. The peripheral device of claim 7 further comprising a communication module adapted to receive said power management message over a wireless communication channel.
10. The peripheral device of claim 9 wherein said wireless communication channel comprises a Bluetooth\u2122 communication channel.
11. The peripheral device of claim 9 wherein implementing said reduced operation comprises terminating maintenance of said wireless communication channel.
12. The peripheral device of claim 7 further comprising a communication module adapted to reestablish a previously established communication channel with said second device.
13. A non-transitory computer readable medium containing computer-executable instructions that, when performed by processor in a peripheral device, cause said processor to:
receive, from a base device, a power management message, said power management message including an indication of a duration of a period of reduced operation for said peripheral device;
said instructions causing said processor to, according to said indication:
reduce operation of said peripheral device at a first time, said reducing operation including suspending a timer related to a cryptographic key, said first time closely following a time of receipt of said power management message; and
resume operation of said peripheral device at a second time, said resuming operation including restarting said timer related to said cryptographic key, said second time comprising a future time determined by adding said duration to said first time.

1. A method for manufacturing a medicated tampon assembly having a tampon body, the method comprising:
applying a formulation including a therapeutic agent to a substrate to produce a plurality of dosage forms;
separating one of the dosage forms from the substrate; and
coupling one of the dosage forms to the tampon body.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the separating act includes removing a substrate portion from the substrate.
3. The method of claim 2, wherein the coupling act includes applying a biologically-compatible adhesive to at least one of the tampon body, the substrate portion, and the dosage form.
4. The method of claim 2, wherein the formulation includes an excipient, and wherein the coupling act includes heating the excipient and applying the heated excipient to one of the tampon body, the substrate portion, and the dosage form.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate is a film.
6. The method of claim 5, wherein the film is produced from a material substantially similar to a material included in the formulation.
7. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate is a paper material.
8. The method of claim 1, further comprising separating the substrate portion from the dosage form prior to the coupling act.
9. The method of claim 1, wherein the applying act includes inkjet printing a metered amount of the formulation including a therapeutic agent.
10. The method of claim 1, wherein the applying act includes depositing a controlled amount of the formulation including a therapeutic agent.
11. The method of claim 1, wherein the separating act includes die-cutting the substrate.
12. The method of claim 1, wherein the separating act includes positioning the dosage form coaxially with an aperture of a die, wherein the aperture defines a plane; and
moving the tampon body perpendicular to the plane and toward the die such that the tampon body contacts the substrate, thereby forcing the substrate against the die to cut the substrate.
13. The method of claim 12, wherein the plane is vertical.
14. The method of claim 12, wherein the plane is horizontal.
15. The method of claim 1, further comprising pushing the dosage form with the tampon body and moving the tampon body into a tampon assembly, thereby capturing the dosage form within the tampon assembly.
16. The method of claim 1, wherein the coupling act includes mechanically attaching the dosage form to the tampon body.
17. The method of claim 16, wherein the mechanical attachment includes partially melting the dosage form.
18. The method of claim 17, wherein the dosage form is partially melted by heating the dosage form.
19. The method of claim 17, wherein the dosage form is partially melted by heating the tampon body and then contacting the tampon body and the dosage form.
20. The method of claim 16, wherein the mechanical attachment includes applying a biologically-compatible adhesive.
21. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate is in the form of a strip.
22. The method of claim 21, wherein the applying act includes applying a metered amount of the formulation including a therapeutic agent at each of a plurality of successive positions along the strip of substrate to create a series of dosage forms.
23. The method of claim 21, further comprising feeding the strip into a tampon assembly process.
24. The method of claim 23, wherein the feeding act includes feeding the strip past an aperture.
25. The method of claim 21, further comprising cutting a dosage form from the strip.
26. The method of claim 21, wherein the dosage forms are arrayed along the strip in a one-dimensional array.
27. The method of claim 21, wherein the dosage forms are arrayed along the strip in a two-dimensional array.
28. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate includes an excipient.
29. The method of claim 28, wherein the excipient is a semi-synthetic glyceride.
30. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate and the dosage form each have a heat of fusion, and further comprising selecting a substrate with a heat of fusion greater than the heat of fusion of the dosage form.
31. A medicated tampon assembly comprising:
a dosage form including a formulation including a therapeutic agent;
a substrate portion separated from a substrate, wherein the substrate portion is coupled to the dosage form; and
a tampon body having a distal end, wherein the substrate portion is coupled to the distal end of the tampon body.
32. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 31, wherein the substrate is a film.
33. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 32, wherein the film is produced from a material substantially similar to a material included in the formulation.
34. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 31, wherein the substrate is a paper material.
35. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 31, wherein the tampon body is coupled to the substrate portion with a biologically-compatible adhesive.
36. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 31, wherein the formulation includes an excipient, and wherein the tampon body is coupled to the substrate portion using heated excipient.
37. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 31, wherein the substrate portion includes an excipient.
38. The medicated tampon assembly of claim 37, wherein the excipient is a semi-synthetic glyceride.
