1. A radiation monitoring system, comprising:
one or more scintillating fibers for generating photons responsive to exposure to radiation in proximity to one or more of a length and a proximate end of the one or more scintillating fibers;
a photon-sensing device operably coupled to a distal end of each of the one or more scintillating fibers for sensing photons from the one or more scintillating fibers;
an extremity protection device comprising:
one or more individual fiber sleeves, each individual fiber sleeve for holding a corresponding one of the one or more scintillating fibers substantially close to a an extremity; and
a collector pocket for holding the photon-sensing device substantially near the extremity.
2. The radiation monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the extremity protection device comprises a glove to be worn on a hand of a person such that each of the one or more scintillating fibers is held substantially close to a finger of the glove and the corresponding proximate end is held substantially near a fingertip of the glove.
3. The radiation monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the photon-sensing device comprises a photomultiplier tube.
4. The radiation monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the photon-sensing device comprises one or more photodiodes.
5. The radiation monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the photon sensing device is operably coupled to a distal end of a plurality of the one or more scintillating fibers for sensing photons from the plurality of the one or more scintillating fibers.
6. The radiation monitoring system of claim 1, wherein the photon-sensing device is configured for generating an electrical signal responsive to the sensed photons and the radiation dose monitoring system further comprises:
a photon signal analyzer operably coupled to the photon-sensing device and configured to generate a dose signal responsive to an analysis of the electrical signal; and
a dose indicator for presenting a warning to a user responsive to the dose signal.
7. The radiation monitoring system of claim 6, wherein the dose indicator is configured to indicate a dose rate above a predetermined threshold.
8. The radiation monitoring system of claim 6, wherein the dose indicator is configured to indicate a cumulative dose above a predetermined threshold.
9. The radiation monitoring system of claim 6, wherein the photon signal analyzer further comprises:
a discriminator operably coupled to the photon-sensing device; and
a multi-channel analyzer operably coupled to the discriminator, wherein the multi-channel analyzer is configured to generate the dose signal.
10. The radiation monitoring system of claim 9, wherein the discriminator comprises a constant fraction discriminator.
11. The radiation monitoring system of claim 6, further comprising a computing system operably coupled to the photon signal analyzer and wherein the computing system and the photon signal analyzer are cooperatively associated to perform the analysis of the electrical signal to generate the dose signal.
12. The radiation monitoring system of claim 11, wherein the photon signal analyzer and the computing system are wirelessly communicable.
13. A method of monitoring a radiation, the method comprising:
sensing radiation proximate a glove on a hand of a person with one or more scintillating fibers held by one or more individual fiber sleeves, each individual fiber sleeve disposed on a corresponding finger of the glove;
generating photons responsive to the one or more scintillating fibers exposure to the radiation;
generating an electrical signal with a photon-sensing device held on a forearm portion of the glove responsive to the sensed photons; and
evaluating a radiation dose level responsive to the electrical signal.
14. The method of claim 13, further comprising presenting a dose indicator to a user responsive to the evaluating the radiation dose level.
15. The method of claim 14, wherein presenting the dose indicator comprises presenting a dose rate above a predetermined threshold.
16. The method of claim 14, presenting the dose indicator comprises presenting a cumulative dose above a predetermined threshold.
17. The method of claim 14, further comprising:
performing a discrimination on the electrical signal; and
processing the electrical signal with a multi-channel analyzer to perform the evaluating the radiation level.
18. A radiation monitoring glove, comprising:
a glove adapted to be worn by a person;
one or more fiber sleeves attached to one or more fingers of the glove;
one or more scintillating fibers disposed at least in part in the one or more fiber sleeves, the one or more scintillating fibers configured for generating photons responsive to exposure to radiation in proximity thereto;
a photon-sensing device disposed in a collector pocket on the glove and operably coupled to a distal end of the one or more scintillating fibers.
19. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 18, wherein the one or more fiber sleeves are adapted and positioned to enable the one or more scintillating fibers to slide freely therein as the one or more fingers of the glove move.
20. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 18, further comprising a dose indicator disposed on the glove and configured for notifying the person wearing the glove of an anomalous dose indicated by a dose signal received by the dose indicator.
21. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 20, further comprising a photon signal analyzer operably coupled to the photon-sensing device, disposed in the collector pocket, and configured for generating the dose signal.
22. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 20, wherein the dose indicator indicates at least one of a total dosage and a dose rate.
23. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 18, further comprising a photon signal analyzer operably coupled to the photon-sensing device, disposed in the collector pocket, and configured for analyzing an electrical signal from the photon-sensing device.
24. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 18, wherein:
the one or more fiber sleeves comprises multiple fiber sleeves with one or more fiber holder attached to each of five fingers of the gloves;
the one or more scintillating fibers comprises multiple scintillating fibers, one or more associated with each of the multiple fiber sleeves; and
the photon-sensing device is operably coupled to the distal ends of each of the five scintillating fibers.
25. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, further comprising a fiber collector attached to the glove near a wrist portion and on a back-of-hand side of the glove for collecting the multiple scintillating fibers together before reaching the collector pocket.
26. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, further comprising a fiber collector attached to the glove near a wrist portion and on a palm side of the glove for collecting the multiple scintillating fibers together before reaching the collector pocket.
27. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, wherein the fiber sleeves are disposed on a palm side of the glove.
28. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, wherein the fiber sleeves are disposed on a back-of-hand side of the glove.
29. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, wherein each of the five fiber sleeves are disposed on a side of a finger of the glove.
30. The radiation monitoring glove of claim 24, wherein at least one of the one or more fiber sleeves includes more than one of the one or more scintillating fibers disposed therein.

displaying, in a first portion of the screen, a user interface text input component operable to receive search query input entered using the keypad;
receiving search query input entered into the text input component by a user of the device;
receiving, responsive to the received query input, a set of document index section indicators, wherein each document index section indicator uniquely identifies a specific point within an associated document and is associated with a subsection within said associated document, wherein the subsection associated with the specific point matches at least a portion of the query input, and wherein the set of document index section indicators includes a first document index section indicator associated with a first document and a second document index section indicator associated with a second document, the first document and the second document being different documents;
receiving, responsive to the received query input, a set of document pointers, where each pointer uniquely identifies a document;
displaying, in a second portion of the screen, said document index section indicators and document pointers;
receiving browse actions from the user to browse through and to select one of said document index section indicators and document pointers;
displaying, if a document index section indicator is selected, the identified document, beginning at the identified point within said document so that the user is presented with the subsection within said document that is relatively more relevant to the query input without having to first scan through one or more other subsections within said document that are relatively less relevant to the query input, or displaying, if a document pointer is selected, the beginning of the identified document;
setting, responsive to the document selection, a query context that includes at least one document context associated with the selected document, wherein the document context represents an attribute of the selected document;
subsequent to displaying the selected document, receiving subsequent search query input entered into the text input component by the user of the device; and
displaying, responsive to the subsequent search query input and the set query context, a first set of document index section indicators for the selected document and a second set of document index section indicators for an unselected document in the second portion of the screen.
2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising generating each of the document index section indicators by retrieving the contents of a document and inferring the structure of said document.
3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the received document index section indicators point to documents that have been previously selected by the user.
4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising generating each of the document index section indicators by retrieving the contents of a document and inferring the structure of said document, where said document has been previously selected by the user.
5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising displaying indicators adjacent to the displayed document pointers, in order to distinguish the displayed document pointers from the displayed document index section indicators.

7. A user-interface method of incrementally searching among multiple documents and incrementally searching for subsections within individual documents using a single incremental search interface on an input-constrained user device having a screen and a keypad, the method comprising:
displaying, in a first portion of the screen, a user interface text input component operable to receive incremental keystrokes entered using the keypad;
receiving a sequence of incremental keystrokes entered into the text input component by a user of the device, wherein the sequence of incremental keystrokes represents a search query input;
in response to each incremental keystroke of the sequence of incremental keystrokes, receiving a set of document index section indicators, wherein each document index section indicator uniquely identifies a specific point within a document associated with a subsection within said document, and wherein the subsection associated with the specific point matches at least a portion of the sequence of incremental keystrokes;
in response to each incremental keystroke of the sequence of incremental keystrokes, receiving a set of document pointers, where each pointer uniquely identifies a document;
displaying, in a second portion of the screen, said document index section indicators and document pointers;
receiving browse actions from the user to browse through and to select one of said document index section indicators and document pointers;
displaying, if a document index section indicator is selected, the identified document, beginning at the identified point within said document so that the user is presented with the subsection within said document that is relatively more relevant to the matched portion of the sequence of incremental keystrokes without having to first scan through one or more other subsections within said document that are relatively less relevant to the matched portion of the sequence of incremental keystrokes, or displaying, if a document pointer is selected, the beginning of the identified document;
setting, responsive to the document selection, a query context that includes at least one document context associated with the selected document, wherein the document context represents an attribute of the selected document;
subsequent to displaying the selected document, receiving a subsequent sequence of incremental keystrokes entered into the text input component by the user of the device, wherein the subsequent sequence of incremental keystrokes represents a subsequent search query input; and

receive, responsive to the received query input, a set of document index section indicators, wherein each document index section indicator uniquely identifies a specific point within an associated document and is associated with a subsection within said associated document, wherein the subsection associated with the specific point matches at least a portion of the query input, and wherein the set of document index section indicators includes a first document index section indicator associated with a first document and a second document index section indicator associated with a second document, the first document and the second document being different documents;
receive, responsive to the received query input, a set of document pointers, where each pointer uniquely identifies a document;
display, in a second portion of the screen, said document index section indicators and document pointers;
receive browse actions from the user to browse through and to select one of said document index section indicators and document pointers;

1. A system to encourage compliance with hand washing procedures, the system comprising:
a first beacon, associated with a boundary, to transmit a first identification signal; and
a second beacon, associated with the boundary, to transmit a second identification signal;
wherein a transition, in a vicinity of the boundary, between the first identification signal and the second identification signal indicates the boundary,
wherein the first beacon emits a first beam that carries the first identification signal and has a transverse cross-section having a maximum length along a first axis, wherein the first beacon is oriented with the first axis of the first beam substantially parallel to the boundary.
2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a wearable device comprising: a receiver to receive the first identification signal and the second identification signal; an indicator to indicate a cleanliness state of a user’s hands; and a control unit to control the indicator of hand cleanliness based at least in part on information from the receiver.
3. The system of claim 2, wherein the control unit of the wearable device comprises logic to evaluate whether the wearable device is crossing the boundary based on receipt of the first identification signal and the second identification signal by the receiver.
4. The system of claim 1, wherein the first beacon and the second beacon each comprise an infrared emitter.
5. The system of claim 1, wherein the first and second beacons have elements to attach the first and second beacons to a wall, and the boundary is implied by the wall.
6. The system of claim 1, wherein the boundary is defined by a doorway though a wall and the first beacon is attached on one side of the wall and the second beacon is attached on an opposite side of the wall.
7. The system of claim 1, wherein the first identification signal carries information indicative of which one of two sides of the boundary the first beacon is on.
8. The system of claim 1, wherein the transverse cross-section has a length along a second axis perpendicular to the first axis, wherein a ratio of the length along the first axis to the length along the second axis is at least 3:1.
9. The system of claim 8, wherein the first beacon projects an infrared beam downwards towards a floor and an average length of the first axis of the first infrared beam is between about 20 and 28 inches.
10. The system of claim 9, wherein an average length of the second axis of the first infrared beam is between about 6 and 10 inches.
11. The system of claim 1, comprising emitters each to transmit an identity signal that includes information identifying the transmitting emitter.
12. A system to encourage compliance with hand washing procedures, the system comprising:
an infrared emitter that projects a first infrared beam with a transverse cross-section having a first axis and a second axis shorter than the first axis, the transverse cross-section having a maximum length along the first axis, the infrared emitter modulating the first infrared beam to transmit a first identification signal;
wherein the infrared emitter projecting the first infrared beam is placed with the first axis of the transverse cross-section of the first infrared beam substantially parallel to a boundary.
13. The system of claim 12, further comprising an infrared emitter that projects a second infrared beam with a transverse cross-section having a first axis and a second axis shorter than the first axis, the transverse cross-section having a maximum length along the first axis, the infrared emitter modulating the second infrared beam to transmit a second identification signal; wherein the infrared emitter projecting the second infrared beam is placed with the first axis of the transverse cross-section of the second infrared beam substantially parallel to the boundary on an opposite side of the boundary from the first infrared beam.
14. The system of claim 12, further comprising a wearable device comprising: an infrared receiver; an indicator operable to indicate a cleanliness state of a user’s hands; and a control unit operable to control the indicator of hand cleanliness based at least on part based input from the infrared receiver.
15. The system of claim 14, wherein the controller of the wearable device comprises logic operable, on receiving the infrared receiver, to evaluate whether wearable device is crossing the boundary.
16. A system to encourage compliance with hand washing procedures, the system comprising:
an emitter that projects a first beam with a transverse cross-section having a first axis and a second axis shorter than the first axis, the transverse cross-section having a maximum length along the first axis, the infrared emitter modulating the first beam to transmit a first identification signal;
wherein the emitter projecting the first beam is placed with the first axis of the transverse cross-section of the first beam substantially parallel to a boundary.
17. The system of claim 16, wherein the emitter is a radiofrequency transmitter.
18. The system of claim 17, wherein the emitter comprises shielding configured to limit lateral transmission of a radiofrequency signal emitted by the radiofrequency transmitter.
19. The system of claim 16 wherein the emitter comprises an infrared emitter.
20. The system of claim 16 wherein the emitter is configured to project the first beam in response to a signal from a motion detector.

a substrate;
a patterned heat conductive material disposed over the substrate;
a patterned, wavelength adjustable absorption material disposed over the heat conductive material; and
an insulating material having a selected thickness and a selected optical transparency disposed over and surrounding at least two sides of the patterned absorption material.
2. The fuse of claim 1, wherein the patterned, wavelength adjustable absorption material comprises a silicon-rich silicon nitride material having a specific range of silicon to nitrogen atomic ratios.
3. The fuse of claim 2, wherein the silicon to nitrogen atomic ratio is between 3:4 to 1:1.
4. The fuse of claim 2, wherein the silicon to nitrogen atomic ratio is greater than 3:4.
5. The fuse of claim 1, wherein the patterned wavelength adjustable absorption material comprises an insulating layer having an index of refraction and a thickness designed to absorb radiation at a selected wavelength.
6. The fuse of claim 5, wherein the selected wavelength is in the 1037 to 1057 nanometer wavelength range.
7. The fuse of claim 1, wherein the insulating material having a selected thickness and a selected optical transparency comprises a silicon nitride layer having an optical transmittance of greater than 50% in a 1037 to 1057 nanometer wavelength range.
8. The fuse of claim 1, further comprising an integrated circuit formed in the substrate and electrically connected to the fuse.
9. The fuse of claim 1, further including a fusible link disposed in a portion of the fuse.
10. The fuse of claim 9, wherein the fusible link comprises a portion of the fuse having a width of the patterned heat conductive material that is reduced from the width of a remaining portion of the patterned heat conductive material.

The fuse of claim 10, further including a patterned layer of conductive polycrystalline silicon disposed between the patterned heat conductive material and the substrate, wherein the portion of the patterned conductive polysilicon disposed beneath the fusible link has a width that is reduced to approximate the width of the patterned heat conductive material of the fusible link.
12. The fuse of claim 8, further including a dynamic memory array on the semiconductor substrate in communication with the fuse for selecting a redundant portion of the dynamic memory array to replace a defective portion of the dynamic memory array.
13. The fuse of claim 8, further including providing a static memory array on the semiconductor substrate in communication with the fuse for selecting a redundant portion of the static memory array to replace a defective portion of the static memory array.
14. The fuse of claim 8, further including providing a logic array on the semiconductor substrate in communication with the fuse for selecting a redundant portion of the logic array to replace a defective portion of the logic memory array.
15. A fuse, comprising:
a substrate;
a patterned heat conductive material disposed over the substrate;
a patterned layer of conductive polycrystalline silicon disposed between the patterned heat conductive material and the substrate;
a patterned, wavelength adjustable absorption material disposed over the heat conductive material; and
an insulating material having a selected thickness and a selected optical transparency disposed over and surrounding at least two sides of the patterned absorption material.
16. The fuse of claim 15, wherein the patterned, wavelength adjustable absorption material comprises a silicon-rich silicon nitride material having a specific range of silicon to nitrogen atomic ratios.
17. The fuse of claim 16, wherein the silicon to nitrogen atomic ratio is between 3:4 to 1:1.
18. The fuse of claim 15, wherein the silicon to nitrogen atomic ratio is greater than 3:4.

23. A laser fuse, comprising:
a substrate;
a patterned heat conductive material disposed over the substrate;
a patterned absorption material disposed over the heat conductive material disposed to efficiently absorb laser radiation at a selected wavelength; and
an insulating material having a selected thickness and selected optical transparency to allow at least 50% of laser light to be transmitted to the patterned absorption material disposed over the patterned absorption material.
24. The laser fuse of claim 23, wherein the heat conductive material comprises tungsten.
25. The laser fuse of claim 23, wherein the heat conductive material comprises a refractory metal.
26. The laser fuse of claim 23, wherein the heat conductive material comprises a refractory metal silicide material.
27. The laser fuse of claim 23, wherein the selected laser wavelength is in a range of from 1037 to 1057 nanometers.
28. A method for forming a fuse, comprising:
forming an oxide layer on a semiconductor substrate;
forming a polycrystalline silicon layer on the oxide layer;
patterning the polycrystalline silicon layer;
forming a heat conductive layer over the polycrystalline silicon layer;
patterning the heat conductive layer;
forming a deposited radiation absorbing layer over the heat conductive layer; and
forming an insulating protective layer over the deposited radiation absorbing layer.
29. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the radiation absorbing layer is engineered to absorb laser radiation at a selected wavelength range.
30. The method of forming a fuse of claim 29, wherein the selected laser wavelength range for absorption is between 1037 to 1057 nanometers.
31. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the deposited radiation absorbing layer comprises a silicon rich silicon nitride material.
32. The method of forming a fuse of claim 31, wherein the silicon rich silicon nitride material comprises a material having a silicon to nitrogen atomic ration of greater than 3 to 4.
33. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the polycrystalline silicon pattern includes a narrower region connected between wider polycrystalline silicon regions to form a fusible link.
34. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the polycrystalline silicon layer is doped before patterning.
35. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the heat conductive layer is formed of at least one of tungsten, a refractory metal and a refractory metal silicide.
36. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the polycrystalline silicon layer and the heat conductive layer patterns are performed in the same patterning step.
37. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the patterning of the heat conductive layer has substantially the same pattern as the patterned polycrystalline silicon layer.
38. The method of forming a fuse of claim 28, wherein the insulating layer is formed with a thickness that transmits greater than 50% of incident laser radiation at a wavelength of between 1037 to 1057 nanometers.
