14. A method for optically recording information, using an optical recording medium comprising a phase-change recording layer which is capable of assuming an amorphous phase changed from a crystalline phase by the irradiation of a laser beam thereto, thereby optically recording information by forming recording marks therein, wherein when said recording marks are formed in said optical recording medium, said laser beam is modulated into a recording pulse train comprising a plurality of high-power pulses and low-power pulses subsequent to said respective high-power pulses, with a recording frequency \u03bd (\u03bd=1Tw where Tw is a window width), and wherein said respective high-power pulses have a pulse width comprising a pulse width portion fixed with a time constant (T).
15. A method for optically recording information, using an optical recording medium comprising a phase-change recording layer which is capable of assuming an amorphous phase changed from a crystalline phase by the irradiation of a laser beam thereto, thereby optically recording information by forming recording marks therein, wherein when said recording marks are formed in said optical recording medium, said laser beam is modulated into a recording pulse train comprising a plurality of high-power pulses and low-power pulses subsequent to said respective high-power pulses, with a recording frequency \u03bd(\u03bd=1Tw where Tw is a window width), and wherein said respective high-power pulses have a pulse width comprising a pulse width portion determined by multiplying said window width (Tw) by a constant.

All refrences to claim(s) which appear below refer to the numbering after this setence.
1. A processor-implemented method of constraining bandwidth consumption in a distributed network, comprising:
providing a content delivery network having a set of content servers that are shared among a set of participating content providers;
providing a secure configuration portal through which each of a set of content providers manages its traffic independent of any other content provider;
having a content provider of the set of participating content providers use the secure configuration portal to identify a bandwidth threshold and an action to take to reduce bandwidth consumption if the bandwidth threshold is met;
encoding the bandwidth threshold and the action within a set of metadata tags to generate content provider-specific metadata;
forwarding the content provider-specific metadata to each of the set of content servers;
at a content server to which an end user has been directed, determining whether the bandwidth threshold has been met over a given time period by comparing data generated at the content server with information in the set of metadata tags; and
if the bandwidth threshold has been met over the given time period as indicated by the comparing step, enforcing the action to reduce the bandwidth consumption for the content provider.
2. The method as described in claim 1 wherein the action is enforced at one or more content servers in the content delivery network from which content provider content is served.
3. The method as described in claim 2 wherein the content is HTTP content.
4. The method as described in claim 2 wherein the content is a data stream.
5. The method as described in claim 1 wherein the step of determining whether the bandwidth threshold has been met includes:
obtaining given usage statistics; and
comparing the usage statistics with the bandwidth threshold.
6. The method as described in claim 5 wherein the given usage statistics comprise month-to-date bandwidth usage for the content provider.
7. The method as described in claim 5 wherein the given usage statistics comprises current bandwidth usage for the content provider.
