17. A low profile food storage cooling and serving pan comprising:
a container having a bottom wall surrounded by an upwardly projecting side walls having a maximum height of no more than 8 inches;
a shelf formed with heat conduction perforations spaced thereabout and received in the cavity and cavity to be disposed at a predetermined height therein dividing the cavity into a lower cooling element compartment and an upper food compartment;
a shelf support for supporting the shelf at the predetermined height;
the upper extremity of the peripheral walls being formed with an outwardly opening indentation configured with an upwardly facing shoulder;
a lid constructed of thermally insulated material and formed with upper and lower surfaces and configured with a perimetrical skirt constructed to be complementally received in the indentation; and
a handle on the shelf for lifting thereof from the container and for grasping to hold such lid with one of such surfaces acting as a service surface for display of food thereon.
18. A pan is set forth in claim 21 wherein:
the opposite end walls of the container are formed with molded inwardly projecting hand grips defining on the interior thereof a catch for restricting the shelf against removal from the container.
19. The pan as defined in claim 18 wherein:
the lid is formed with an outwardly projecting rim overlying the rib and further includes a downwardly projecting flange projected downwardly on the inner side of the rib.
20. A low profile food temperature control and serving pan and storage device comprising:
a container having a bottom and upwardly projecting peripheral walls defining a thermal compartment for receiving a heat element and terminating upwardly in a peripheral lip;
the peripheral walls having oppositely disposed walls including inwardly projecting tabs defining the upwardly facing support shoulders;
a shelf configured to be removably received in the compartment to be positioned at a selected level supported spaced above the bottom wall to divide the thermal compartment into a heat element cavity disposed there below and a food storage compartment disposed there above and configured to conduct heat therethrough;
a shelf support device in the container and having an upwardly facing support shoulder disposed to support the shelf at the selected level; and
a service lid defining upper and lower surfaces and configured with a marginal edge to nest against the lip, one of the surfaces defining a service surface.
21. A low profile food temperature control and serving pan and storage device comprising:
a container having a bottom wall and upwardly projecting peripheral walls defining a thermal compartment for receiving a heat element and terminating upwardly in a peripheral lip, the peripheral walls are formed exteriorly about there periphery adjacent the lip with an outwardly opening indention;
a shelf configured to be removably received in the compartment to be positioned at a selected level supported spaced above the bottom wall to divide the thermal compartment into a heat element cavity disposed there below and a food storage compartment disposed there above;
the shelf being formed with a downwardly depending perimetrical skirt configured to be received in the indention;
a shelf support device in the container and having an upwardly facing support shoulder disposed to support the shelf at the selected level; and
a service lid defining upper and lower surfaces and configured with a marginal edge to nest against the lip, one of the surfaces defining a service surface.
22. A low profile food temperature control and serving pan and storage device comprising:
a container having a bottom wall and upwardly projecting peripheral walls defining a thermal compartment for receiving a heat element and terminating upwardly in a peripheral lip;
the walls being formed on opposite sides with molded inwardly projecting hand grips defining on the interior thereof respective catches disposed at a selected level and spaced a predetermined distance from one another;
a shelf configured to be removably received in the compartment to be positioned at a selected level spaced above the bottom wall and below the selected level to divide the thermal compartment into a heat element cavity disposed there below and a food storage compartment disposed there above and configured to conduct heat therethrough, the shelf being longer than the predetermined length;
a shelf support device in the container and having an upwardly facing support shoulder disposed to support the shelf at the selected level; and
a service lid defining upper and lower surfaces and configured with a marginal edge to nest against the lip, one of the surfaces defining a service surface.

1. An insert for use with a utility box, said insert device comprising:
a shell adapted to be affixed within said utility box affixed to a permanent structure of a premises, said shell having therein at least one electrical connector; said connector having a portion within a body of said shell and a portion extending through a wall of said sell such that wiring within said utility box can be connected to said extending portion and wherein said connector portion within said body of said shell is adapted for mating with control devices; and
a control device removably positioned within said body of said shell wherein said control device comprises:
a housing having a footprint designed to fit within said shell;
at least one user accessible device positioned on a face side of said housing;
a plurality of electrical terminals accessible from an exterior section of said housing; said terminals adapted for mating with said electrical connectors of said shell, and

at least one processor for controlling the function of said control device.
2. The insert of claim 1 wherein said control device is selected from the list of: power switch, electrical outlet, light switch, thermostat, temperature detection, light-intensity detection, motion detection, vibration detection communications device, humidity detection, fire detection, smoke detection, CO detection, CO2 detection, video detection, video receiver, audio detection, audio receiver, keypad, touchpad, switching, outlet socket, light socket, dimmer, motion detection switch, light-intensity detection switch, touch screen controller, telephone, alarm controller.
3. The device of claim 1 further comprising:
means for changing the connection orientation of said terminals.
4. The device of claim 3 wherein said changing means is selected from the list of: jumper plate, interchangeable terminal pins, jumper wires.
5. The device of claim 1 wherein said processor comprises:
means for communicating with at least one processor associated with another switch, said communicating being by electrical signals transmitted between processors.
